HomeBloom Summer Mini-Camp Breakdown

HomeBloom Virtual Learning Summer Camp Blog Post

Picture this…

It’s the third week of of summer vacation. You’ve exhausted all the Pinterest activities you filed away during Spring Break. You no longer have the motivation to search for more, never mind actually set them up and execute them.

Your kids are bored, which is fine. Boredom is good. Boredom breeds creativity.

Summer boredom - too much boredom - is also driving you crazy.

You are starting to worry about the lack of brain stimulation your kids are getting. Are their skills from last year staying sharp? Will they jump right back into things in September? What did their teachers say they needed to keep working on this summer? It’s hard to remember and things are getting fuzzy.

Are you entering summer slide (or summer learning loss, summer regression) territory?

What is the HomeBloom summer learning camp?

The purpose of the HomeBloom 8-day mini-summer camp is to address these issues.

The camp helps to relieve some of the pressure put on you as the parent. It will also give you back some time that you need. Finally, the camp will keep little minds engaged.

Who is the summer learning camp for?

This is a virtual summer camp designed for elementary students (Kindergarten - 5th). I designed the camps to meet the needs of various learners. Whether your child needs to review old skills or is ready for a new challenge, they will benefit.

HomeBloom Mini-Camps run in three cohorts from July 11 - July 21, 2022 (Monday - Thursday, 8 days)

  1. Kindergarten Kickstart (9-10am)

  2. Brain Booster 2 (11-12:30pm)

  3. Brain Booster 2 (2-3pm)

All camps will:

  • Be interactive, engaging, and high energy

  • Focus on connection, culture, and community

  • Communicate with families for extended learning and fun

  • Include specific feedback for continued growth

  • Deliver daily challenges outside of the camp and away from screens. Challenges will extend learning and provide extra responsibility and accountability

Camp Program 1: Kindergarten Kickstart (9-10am)

Objective: Prepare students for Kindergarten by strengthening skills and having fun at home! This “kindergarten prep” program will incorporate early literacy, numeracy, language, storytelling, and crafts.

Parents and children will feel equipped and confident as they walk into a new chapter.

Some of the skills addressed include:

  • Phonemic Awareness & Phonics Skills

  • Foundational Reading & Writing Skills

  • Conversational skills

  • Fine Motor

  • Following Directions, persistence, flexibility, problem solving

  • Early numeracy skills

Camp Program 2: Brain Booster 1 (11am-12:30pm)

Objective: Prevent the “summer slide” and boost literacy skills for first, second, and third graders.

Skills Addressed:

  • Phonemic Awareness & Phonics Skills

  • Reading & Writing Skills

  • Conversational skills

  • Fine Motor

  • Following Directions

Camp Program 3: Brain Booster 2 (2-3pm)

Objective: Prevent the “summer slide” by boosting reading comprehension and executive functioning skills.

Parents and children will feel equipped and confident as they enter upper-elementary grades. This program will help them think about and prepare for the leap to middle school.

Skills Addressed:

  • Reading & Writing Skills

  • Conversational skills

  • Comprehension skills in a “book club” format

  • Specific executive functioning skills through structured lessons

Some general information about all camps:

We will limit camps to 6 virtual campers each. This helps maintain intimacy and community building.

Each camp will practice skills through a specific theme every week, and campers should have basic materials (I will provide a list, but nothing extravagant). They will also receive a set of materials a week before camp. The cost of these extra materials is included in the camp pricing.

I will also host a virtual parent workshop and Q&A session to help assist in the back-to-school transition. This will be held live via zoom (just like the camp sessions), but just for parents. Think super low-key and casual!

Cost:

$40 registration fee

$275 per child for all 8 days
